Water Resources Projects
Southeast the United States

SAAD Consultants senior staff has experience in the design and supervision of construction of water resources projects including flood control, and stormwater draiange. Described here are selected projects, representing that experience.

Snapfinger Creek Dam Project
Dekalb County, Georgia
Design and supervision of construction of Snapfinger Creek earth dam and reservoir in Dekalb County, Georgia. Hydrologic analysis was performed to determine the inflow hydrograph of the 100-year flood using the HEC-1 model. Hydraulic analysis was performed to determine maximum pool elevation and to design the spillway and outlet works. The flood risk downstream of the dam was mapped using the HEC-2 model. Embankment and outlet works were similar to the photo shown.

Wallace Dam Project
Georgia Power Company, Atlanta, Georgia
Performed the hydrologic and hydraulic analyses of the Oconee River Basin, Georgia, for the design of bridges and Wallace Dam for Georgia Power Company. The analysis included computation of flood discharge of various return periods for drainage areas varying from 1 to 1,670 square miles and associated backwater profiles. Regional flood frequency statistical analyses were performed. HEC-2 model was used for the bridge hydraulics.

Fort Benning Flood Control Projects
US Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District
Hydrologic and hydrdraulic analyses for Fort Benning, Georgia for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, to determine design flows of various return periods required for the design of the facilities flood control projects. Regional frequency analyses using Log Person Type III distribution and HEC-2 model were employed.

Master Drainage Plan for the Fleet Ballistic Missiles, Submarine Support Base
Kings Bay, St Mary, Georgia
Development of the concept and detailed design including coordination with various A-E firms responsible for the design of the infrastructure of the naval base for the Southern Division Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Charleston, South Carolina. Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses were performed for the concept, using the SCS TR-20 and HEC-2 models.and detailed design was develped. This project earned attention from the Engineering News Record.
